The Antonio Gates Sound Mind Sound Body Football Academy presented by Total Health Care

The Sound Mind Sound Body Football Academy hosts about 350 of the top high school football student-athletes from Michigan, Ohio and Canada for a weekend of intense athletic training, academic and life skills development.  It is one of the largest and most comprehensive youth football events in southeast Michigan.

The goal of the Academy is to prepare the participants for a successful transition to college athletics. Players learn about  leadership, self-awareness and goal setting in order to promote individual success and self-development.  In class sessions, students are educated on NCAA eligibility, ACT

prep, conflict resolution and STD awareness.  On the field, they participate in position specific drills led by San Diego Charger and Detroit-native Antonio Gates.  University of Michigan Head Coach Rich Rodriguez and other Division-1A college coaches and players have also served as instructors, guest speakers and counselors.  In addition, the student-athletes have an opportunity to compete against each other and show off their skills for college coaches in the stands.

Thanks to the generosity of Gates and other sponsors, the average cost per student is about $75 and most students from Detroit attend for free.
