THINK DETROIT PAL HOLDS FIRST ANNUAL CHEER JAMBOREE
ALL 24 TDP CHEER ORGANIZATIONS WILL SHOW THEIR SKILLS AT AUG. 22 DEMONSTRATION
DETROIT, Mich.—In a continuing effort to increase sport and leadership opportunities for girls in Detroit, Think Detroit PAL will hold its first Annual “Show Up, Show Out” Cheer Jamboree Aug. 22 from 5-8 p.m. at Wayne State University.
The purpose of the event is to kickoff the football and cheer season and to unite TDP’s 24 cheer organizations in the spirit of fun and camaraderie. Instead of a competition, the Jamboree will be a skills demonstration and a spirit event. Hundreds of girls are expected to participate.
“This will be a great, fun event for our cheerleaders,” said Raina Harmon, assistant director of athletics at Think Detroit PAL. “We put the Jamboree together to give all the girls the opportunity to show their skills on a big stage without having to worry about winning or losing.”
The Jamboree comes on the heels of Think Detroit PAL’s first Annual Cheer Clinic held at Wayne State University June 26-27. Nearly 300 cheerleaders aged 8-14 participated in the event which focused on improving tumble skills, flexibility, arm motions and voice training.
Think Detroit PAL was formed on March 1, 2006, by the merger of two of the leading youth development organizations in the Detroit area: Think Detroit, Inc. and the Detroit Police Athletic League (PAL). The organization is one of the largest non-profit urban youth leadership programs in the nation, and serves nearly 12,000 youth annually.
